Letter of A J Hamilton, of Texas To the President of the United States
New York, 1863. First Edition. Wraps. Good. 8vo. 18pp. Original printed stitched wraps. Front wrap starting to separate along spine. Ex-library copy from the "Library of the Loyal Publication Society" with its stamped circular seal on front wrap and oval stamp on rear wrap,. Another stamp from the Society located at upper blank corner of first text leaf. Hostile reaction to Hamilton's anti-secession stance drove him from Texas in 1862. Hamilton wrote his anti-slavery letter to President Lincoln July 28, 1863 - a few weeks after the Battle of Gettysburg.
