With a summary of ... all the canonical epistles. And an explanation of ... St. John's Revelation. The whole ... adorned with proper cuts engraven by Mr. J. Sturt." A superb work with over 40 full page engraved plates, (but no frontispiece) these are crisp and well defined with an arresting boldness of design. The text is adorned throughout with historiated letters and engraved tail and head pieces. Each part has as a separate title page and pagination, the first title page printed in red and black. pp. [viii], 188 & 88 (inlcuding 5 pages of publisher's adverts). Contemporary full sheep binding with an old utilitarian repair to the spine using calf, some general wear and rubbing, with leather chipped to the head/tail of the spine, repair itself cracked to joints and repaired, boardsl firmly attached. Contents clean and tight, title page a little dust marked with some contemporary annotation, some pages a little toned, otherwise unmarked. Notwithstanding the binding, a very good copy. Scarce.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/No dust jacket. Illus. by Sturt, Mr. J.. 8vo (13 X 20cm).
