Harry Potter Complete Seven Volume Set of First American Editions: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone; Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets; Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban; Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire; Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix; Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince; Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Years 1-7)
Arthur A. Levine Books / Scholastic Press 1998 - First American editions of each volume. Volume 1 is a first printing, includes the first state jacket without 'Year 1' on the spine, and has the Guardian quote on the rear panel. Book 2 is a first printing in a second state binding with 'Year 2' on the book spine, with a first state jacket ($17.95 flap price, no 'Year 2' on spine). Volumes 3-7 are all first printings. Minor wear to corners of books 1 & 2, ink name on front endpaper of book 2, page edges of book 4 faintly smudged. Overall, a very presentable set with tight bindings and only minor cosmetic flaws. All jackets are protected under fresh archival mylar covers. An important fact to note concerning Harry Potter first editions: the points used to determine the printing, binding state, and jacket state of these books, particularly the first two in the series, are somewhat complicated. It is, therefore, relatively easy for novices to mistake later states or printings for 'the real deal', and because of this one often sees these reprints advertised as first editions. We have a generally optimistic view of humanity, and expect that the majority of these sellers are simply victims of their own misapprehension. In any event, we would recommend treading with caution and, ideally, consult with a professional bookseller before making a deal that seems too good to be true. We are happy to answer your inquiries about the edition points of these books so you can make your purchase decision with confidence. Complete in seven hardcover volumes, this is the series that became a publishing and film phenomenon, creating a new generation of ravenous readers at a time when reading was becoming an endangered hobby. It has also increased the interest in book collecting: collectible editions of Rowling's works continue to command high prices, and if the success of spin-off books, feature films, Pottermore, and Harry Potter themed attractions is any indication, the story of the boy who lived is a modern classic, and will remain popular for many generations. Keywords: CHILDREN FANTASY ADVENTURE SERIES JUVENILE LITERATURE [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
