A prominent citizen of Wilmington, NC, James Sprunt collected and preserved the history of his state, issuing the James Sprunt Historical Publications and James Sprunt Historical Monographs. This massive volume traces the history of Cape Fear through Colonial times, the Revolutionary era, steamboats, railroads, and, most importantly, the Civil War.
