The Kings & The Cats
Benziger Bros., New York 1908 - Print date of 1908 on title page. This would be the American 1st edition, while Burn & Oates published it in England about the same time. Burgandy cloth boards have bright gilt lettering on front and spine and a gilt rule along front edges. The boards are creased. The rear did not crease through onto the rear endpaper but the front did. The cloth is intact, with light wear mainly at corners (which are lightly bumped). There are a few scattered droplets on the otherwise clean cloth. The front hinge is just starting to separate at bottom half inch. Endpapers are toned and the ffep has a name at top. The title page also has two names penned and 1909. The rest of the pages are well bound. Pages have occassional smudges, but nothing serious. There are 10 full page b&w plates in addition to the frontispiece which has a tissue guard. This is not the normal Wain anthropomorphic kitties. He has illustrated the three tales - The Kings And The Cats, And The Wise Old Woman Of The Wicklow Hills John And The Four-Footed Beast Old Grey Norris Of Warland [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
