Published by John and Josiah Boydell. 1831. - 4to. 27cm, (106)p., with 53 steel-engraved plates, text in English and French, index, in contemporary elaborately blind decorated (borders, devices, pictorials.) full black calf, gilt spine titles, a.e.g., some foxing (fairly heavy to some plates), wanting the front free fly, title page lower corner clipped, very good copy (binding is near fine) (cgc). - A fine selection of scenes of England, Scotland and Wales by the English engraver, Samuel Middiman (1750-1831), noted for his engravings of landscapes. Originally published in parts from 1784 to 1792, publishers credit the book for creating a public interest in the scenery of Westmoreland, Cumberland and Lancashire and hence a tourist movement. Artists include Francis Wheatley, George Barrett, S. Ireland, A. Callender as well as Middiman. [Attributes: Hard Cover]
