Miscellanies, In Prose And Verse
London: Printed For The Author, 1766. First edition. Hardcover. Modern navy cloth spine and plain brown boards with white spine label. Near fine. 227 pages. 29 x 23 cm. The author, daughter of the late Admiral Yeo of Plymouth. Extensive Subscriber List, a mirror of elite personages including the Dukes of York and Gloucester. Neglected by her father at sea for long periods, left in the hands of an immature step mother, and wed to a drunkard who went bankrupt. She decries the double standard allowing men debauchery, whilst women receive "perpetual odium." Her apparent court connections provided support for her writing. Wide text margins, text overall fresh.
