Three nineteenth century manuscripts from the Vietnamese - Chinese border regions
1. Stringbound manuscript 240 x 230 mm, titled and written in Vietnamese utilising Chinese characters, approximately 112 pp. of dense script, astrological diagrams, a little wear but overall very good condition. 2. Stringbound manuscript 210 x 150 mm, titled and written in Vietnamese utilising Chinese characters, approximately 20 pp., each page divided into quadrants with naive illustrations of local daily life, and activities, and what appears to be a murder and funeral, a little wear with small tears to a few leaves but overall good condition. 3.Stringbound manuscript 210 x 185 mm, titled and written in Vietnamese utilising Chinese characters, approximately 70 pp. of script with naive illustrations of what appears to be local folk tales and legends, some staining and wearbut overall good condition. An interesting collection of South-East Asian manuscripts created for local use, perhaps with religious or talismanic overtones. Further research will be required to fully appreciate their meaning. Provenance : acquired in Hanoi in 2010.
