Les délices de la Grande Bretagne et de l'Irlande où sont exactement décrites les antiquitez, les provinces, les villes.
Leiden: Pierre van der Aa 1707 - Leiden: Pierre van der Aa., 1707. 8 volumes bound in 4, 8vo, engraved titles, 241 engraved copper-plate, double-page plates and maps, after Loggan, Kip, Slezer and others, title-pages in red and black, contemporary red morocco, spine with raised bands, gilt, gilt edges. Although the name Beeverell is a fabrication, the 'Delights of Great Britain and Ireland' has continuing value because of the fine engraved plates by Jan Goeree (1670-1731) and the 'on the spot' information it provides about the inhabitants, their customs, speech, and religion. This first edition was printed by the Leiden mapmaker and publisher Pieter van der Aa, who specialized in topography, travel and natural history. Note the Irish harp in the corner. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
