The War in Eastern Europe (Signed First Edition)
Charles Scribner's Sons, New York 1916 - First Edition. SIGNED by Reed on the front endpaper. Illustrated throughout with black-and-white plates. Frontispiece tissue guard intact, and all plates present. The author's account of his second trip to Europe during World War I, made in 1915 with illustrator Robinson. The book details Reed's journey, where he was arrested several times and nearly executed as a spy twice, but also his increasing objection to the war on social and political grounds, views that would cause his career to be nearly destroyed during the United States' entry into the conflict.Very Good plus lacking the dust jacket. Two bookplates on the front endpaper (with partial removal of one), faint dampstains to the page fore-edges, professional repair to the hinges, light toning to the spine, and light rubbing overall.
