() An importantand early view of Winnipeg. "Sketches in North America and theOregon Territory" was published in 1846 by Dickinson & Co, inLondon and was dedicated to the Hudson Bay Company. Captain HenryJames Warre was a British officer on Duty in Canada. He examinedand reported on river communications between Montreal and the RedRiver settlement in the Oregon Territory. He and Captain Vavasourset out to Oregon on the Pacific coast on a reconnaissanceexpedition in connection with the Western Boundary dispute. Warrewas an accomplished draughtsman and a talented artist, and a finecollection of his water colours can be found in the NationalArchives and in the Sigmnud Samuel Collection. (Spendlove)
