Bologna 1593 - Elizabethae Reginae Angliae Edictum, 1593, 361pp plus index. 2. Small 8vo. An early edition (first published in 1592). Original full vellum with ink title to spine. Elizabethae Angliae Reginae was written by Robert Parsons under the name 'Andreas Philopatrum'. Robert Parsons was an English Jesuit priest. He was a major figure in establishing the 16th-century "English Mission" of the Society of Jesus and enemy of Queen Elizabeth, much of the time Persons spent in England was taken up with covert printing and pamphleteering. The above publication was an answer to Elizabeth's proclamation from October 1591, entitled A Declaration of great troubles pretended against the realm by a number of seminary Priest and Jesuits. Proclamation was her answer to Parsons frequent atacks manacing her throne. In effect the penal laws against Jesusits where increased and Person himself was named as King Catholic's confessor (King Of Spain). Parsons in his Elizabethae Angliae Reginae criticises the proclamation point by point and answers that he is not fit for such a honourable position adding that he would personally prefer to be Queen's confessor. Important historical publication from the man who we cannot name as a leader of plots against Elizabeth but doubtlessly he was the centre of all of them. All text in Latin.
