Les Fossoyeurs du Progres - Les Mandarins contre les Pionniers de la Science - SIGNED
Imprimerie Leon Sezanne, Lyon 1941 - Inscribed by Author(s)322 pages (complete). This rare book is even further rarified in that it is INSCRIBED (to Paul Berney) by Auguste Lumiere on the front page (dated: 2 - 2 - 42). Auguste Lumiere, together with his brother Louis, created the modern Cinema. Their bringing together of techniques and developments and showing the results to, crucially, large groups of the public changed the story of moving pictures forever. Together they also changed, irrevocably, the way photographs were developed with their introduction of the 'dry development' technique that required a dark room. Once they had made their fortunes and assured their names in history, the Lumiere brothers settled into their own paths. Auguste's passion was science, development and techonology. He settled in Lyon for the rest of his life where he researched and wrote on scientific and medical matters. This is a polemic against the bureaucracy that stifled scientific research. Published in Vichy Lyon by the indefatigable and impervious Leon Sezanne publishers. Rebound in marbled board and quarter leather. In good sound, sturdy, strong condition. There is wear to the board corners and to the leather spine. The spine is muscular and dignified. The gilt print is bright. The early pages have slight user marking to the right edges. There is some very mild foxing to these pages. The pages are firm, sturdy, very confident and assured. Considering that the book was published in wartime and its consequent economic restrictions the paper is of exceptional quality. The pages are healthy, clean and clear. They are tight to the binding, vigorous and sure. French Text fk [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; Hard Cover]
