Bridgeport, CT, 1868. 4 pp. pen and ink on personal stationery, with "Barnum" blindstamp. 8vo. Old folds. 4 pp. pen and ink on personal stationery, with "Barnum" blindstamp. 8vo. Barnum responds to an offer to lecture at an agriculture fair, reading in part: "In reply to your invitation to address your public on the occasion of your Ag. & Hort. Fair. I beg to say I think you can do better. I don't know much about either subject." Barnum then goes on to offer his services anyway, and states his terms: "My most successful address is entitle 'Success in Life-on the Art of Money Getting' - a subject which all are interested in … I annually decline scores of invitations to lecture, at my usual terms ($100 & expenses) …"
