Frost In May (Signed By The Author In The Year Of Publication : Association Copy)
Desmond Harmsworth 1933 - The First UK printing published by Desmond Harmsworth in 1933. The BOOK is in Very Good++ or better condition. Mild soiling to the pale covers with toning to the spine. Light toning of the text block with the occasional spotting to the page edges in places. Original pale blue endpapers present. Free from erasures and inscriptions. The scarce paper WRAPPER is in Very Good+ condition and is clipped. Light fading to spine colouring but this remains very bright. Mild edge wear with a chip to the upper spine extending across the rear upper edge (see images). The wrapper looks very striking in the removable Brodart archival cover. The book has been Signed and Dated by Antonia White to the front end paper: 'To Tom, the first copy, from Toni' and dated at the lower front end paper in the same hand 'June 25th 1933'. The recipient was White's second husband Tom Hopkinson. Antonia White married Tom Hopkinson, then a copywriter, in 1930. He went on to become famous as the editor of Picture Post, and was eventually knighted for his services to journalism. The British author's first novel, a fictionalized account of her time at a Catholic boarding school and her expulsion subsequently reissued as a Virago Classic. The first copy off the press with a wonderful dedication and scarce wrapper - very Collectible. Ashtonrarebooks welcomes direct contact. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; Hard Cover]
