The Most Famous, Delectable, and Pleasant History of Parismus, the Most Renowned Prince of Bohemia . .
London: Printed by M. H. and J. M. for J. Wright, J. Clarke, W. Thackeray, and T. Passinger, 1684 - Two parts in one, small 4to, 19th century black half calf, reddish-orange paper boards, gilt decorations and lettering. Frontispiece to each part. A 17th century black-letter edition of a famous and popular late 16th century English romance, highly derivative of the Spanish novels of chivalry, but sufficiently influential on its own to appear in more than 20 editions over the course of 100 years and to be referred to in at least six 17th century English plays. See the DNB online. Little is recorded about Ford (sometimes spelled Forde), who wrote other popular romances. This was his best seller. Bibliographical manuscript notes on the front blank; frontispiece in part one laid down; title-page repaired on the verso; recently recased with new endpapers; very good copy. Wing F-1537; ESTC R36462; NCBEL I, 2054 Stated "Twelfth Impression [i.e., edition]" on the title-page, which is not grossly incorrect. [Attributes: Hard Cover]
