1600 - Enormous antiphonal, almost 2 feet by 3 feet by 4 inches thick, weighing in at 75 pounds; two of the Masses are for St. Catherine of Sienna, so it may be from an Italian cathedral; nevertheless, it could be Spanish as well. Likely 1600's. 161 vellum leaves (of 162, the first leaf is missing, but it was not a title page, just another leaf of music). Full leather requiring restoration to the spine; a profusion of large brass corners and bosses. Entirely done by hand, this antiphonal features a vast number of large red letters and ornate black letters, each generally 6 inches high. The work is composed of choral music based on psalms as well as certain saint's days. Some staining here and there and some of the vellum yellowed. Still and all, nicely preserved and likely to last another half millennium or so. For additional information please contact Jonathan Tomhave at 239 659 0094 [Attributes: Hard Cover]
