Stamboul Train.
London William Heinemann Ltd 1932 - First edition, first issue, 8vo., 307pp., a few light spots otherwise very good, modern full green morocco with tan lettering pieces, marbled endpapers and all edges gilt. The minor character, 'Quinn Savoury' was based on J. B. Priestley (very unflatteringly), who objected and threatened legal action if the character remained therefore the remainder of these true first editions were withdrawn and the second issue omits Quin Savoury. Greene wrote of the novel; "In Stamboul Train for the first and last time in my life I deliberately set out to write a book to please, one which with luck might be made into a film. The devil looks after his own and I succeeded in both aims". It is certainly a plot of intrigue and ill-doings as the protagaonists travel on the Orient Express from Ostend to Istanbul. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
