A view of Sir Isaac Newton’s philosophy
London: printed by S. Palmer, 1728. - First edition. 4to, pp [50], 407, [1]. Collated and correct. Prelims run: vignette title page dated 1728, dedication to Sir Robert Walpole with a head piece, and engraved capital, preface, poem on Sir Isaac Newton by Glover, contents, list of subscribers, followed by introduction, then the main text, divided into three books: on laws of motion, the solar system, and the cause of colours. Very attractive illuminated capitals head and tail pieces to the beginning of each book, and twelve folding diagrammatic plates. Contemporary panelled calf, edges speckled, sympathetically rebacked with contrasting label, original endpapers retained, early book label partially removed from front pastedown, final blank present, first dedication leaf torn and repaired, a nice clean wide margined copy. Please note that one flaw of a repaired leaf A2 (see photograph), otherwise a really nice example of this renowned work, in an equally pleasant binding. ESTC T53471.
