R.Ackermann, London 1810 - The Rev. Joseph Wilkinson 1765-1831, Rector of East and West Wretham, in the County of Norfolk and Chaplain to the Matquis of Huntley who had lands in the Lake District. Wilkinson was a passionate and gifted amateur artist who drew from both love and real knowledge of the landscape. Wilkinson and his wife were friends of Coleridge and the Southeys. In 1809 Joseph asked Coleridge if he or Wordsworth would introduce a volume of his Lake District views which was undertaken by Wordsworth for a fee. xxxiv, +12pp. Forty eight full page plates etched by William Frederick Wells from drawings by Wilkinson. Owners inscription dated 1824 to front end paper. Armorial book plate to pastedown and Norwich Free Library label tipped in to hinge. Small blind stamp - off image to each plate.
