Pp. viii+574+2(advertisements)+viii+302+viii+588, 17 plates (13 folding), text figures, tables, indices; dark green pebbled cloth, spines lettered in gilt, the boards of Volume I decorated in blind, Volumes II & III a darker green and slightly different cloth, all volumes lightly worn, the joints of Volume II neatly repaired; uncut, occasionally partly unopened; library markings (cancelled) and bookseller's sticker on upper pastedown Volume I, later endpapers and name in faint blue pencil at head of half-title page Volume II, bookseller's blind stamp on upper free endpaper Volume III, hinges occasionally starting, a couple of small water stains, a little light foxing, soiling and occasional minor wear & tear; Richard Taylor and William Francis/Bernard Quaritch, London, 1849-1855. Mixed set: Volume I second edition; Volume II the later [1878] Quaritch facsimile reprint (still dated 1844 on the title page); Volume III first edition.
