Little, Brown and Co., Boston, New York, Toronto, London 1996 - A signed copy of Nelson Mandela`s autobiography, with an inscription by the `Cape Town 2004 Bid` team (presumably the Olympic bid team) on the front free endpaper. Corners and edges a little worn, with a few small nics and tears. Binding shaken, and cracked in the gutter of the lower endpaper. Tiny scrape to front pastedown. Otherwise in nice condition. Inscription reads: `Dear Ohano-san and Mrs. Ohano, we hope that the memoir of President Nelson Mandela, our great leader, will remind you of your visit to Robben Island and to Cape Town, South Africa and that you will return. As proud members of the Cape Town 2004 Bid, we could not wish for more. The Cape Town Team`. Robben Island is where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 18 years for sabotage and conspiring to overthrow the government. He spent the rest of his imprisonment at the Pollsmoor and Victor Verster Prisons. The Nobel Laureate`s signature and date (14.4.97) is on the half title. Text in English.
