London - Darton and Co. 1850 - A collection of German children's stories. Translated into English. The true Darton first edition of this hugely influential work. Rarely seen, no auction records since 1975. Held institutionally only at Oxford and Cambridge. With an illustrated frontispiece and title page. In original cloth binding, no date to title page, dated from Copac. A collection of seventeen stories, some of which are from Jacob Grimm. Direct from the library of the late Hugh Selbourne MD (1906-1973) a noted book collector and diarist. Condition: In a full cloth binding. Externally, generally smart. Handling marks to boards and spine. Bumping to head and tail of spine as well as to the extremities. Prior owner's signature to recto of front endpaper, Charles Hugh Leyton from Anna Charlotte, October 22nd 1856. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are slightly age toned to edges with the odd spot throughout. Overall: VERY GOOD. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
