The Birthday Party (Signed True First), The Caretaker (First Printing) and Royal Court Programme
Encore Publishing Co. 1959 - First edition, first impression (Pinter’s first published work, preceding the Methuen editions), signed by Harold Pinter to the title page; together with a first edition, first printing of The Caretaker (1960) – both softcover originals in stapled wraps - and a programme for the Royal Court production (1960) of The Dumb Waiter and The Room. The Birthday Party: Very Good minus in pictorial wrappers; rubbing and splitting to the wraps along the line of the spine, securely reinforced and stabilized by tape to the internal hinges (not recent); internally bright, crisp and clean; a very presentable example of a flimsy edition, with the distinction of Pinter’s signature. The Caretaker: Very Good+ in modestly toned and dusty wrappers; small stain to the inside edge of the front cover and a previous owner’s name to the title page; else, crisp and clean. Royal Court programme: Fine. An interesting bundle capturing Pinter’s nascent writing career at the point of its breakthrough. All orders are sent very carefully wrapped in bubble wrap and sturdy cardboard. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; Soft Cover]
