Spectra; A Book of Poetic Experiments (INSCRIBED to Edward Weston)
New York: Mitchell Kennerly, 1916. 1st. Hardcover. First Edition; Limited to a small printing said to be 660 copies. INSCRIBED "To Edward Weston/a signal of/amusement/(with seriousness/thrown in)from/Witter Bynner." Small 8vo. 66 pp. Previous bookseller notes and clippings laid in. Original pale grey printed boards, without dustjacket as issued. Light staining to rear board; slight darkening to spine; a near fine copy with a special association. Published by the American poets Arthur Davidson Ficke and Witter Bynner under the pseudonyms of Anne Knish and Emanuel Morgan. They set out to satirize the high seriousness of Imagism and the pretensions of literary movements in general but the hoax was taken seriously by the publish, the press and more than a few poets.
