Log of the "Ariel"
New York: The Photo-gravure Company & Boston: Cupples, Upham & Co, 1885. Frontispiece, 50 lithorgraphed unnumbered leaves. Oblong 8vo. Original illustrated wrappers in an oversewn Chinese binding with silk tie, wrappers are lightly soiled and a little tired but a very good copy. Frontispiece, 50 lithorgraphed unnumbered leaves. Oblong 8vo. Uncommon. A lavishly illustrated account of the cruise through the gulf of Maine. The Ariel stopped at Scaco Pool, Biddeford, Booth Bay, North Haven, Mount Desert, Somerville, Penobscot Bay, the Kennebec, Portland and Portsmouth. The log was written by Mr Parson, chosen "not because he had the least notion how a log should be written, nor the faintest understanding of nautical terms, but simply because he had the meekes spirit and did not have backbone enough to hold out against the overwhelming majority."
