or, Entertaining Museum. Containing a great variety of original essays, in prose and verse, with a number of moral, political and entertaining pieces; extracted from the most remarkable pamphlets, magazines, &c. &c. which have appeared in the course of this work. With an alphabetical index to the whole.
Birmingham: printed by and for J. Sketchley sworn appraiser auctioneer and salesman in the High-Street; and sold by Mr. Luckman printer in Coventry; Mr. Pryse Shrewsbury; Mr. Clare Bewdley; Mr. Guest Dudley; Mr. Taylor Kidderminster; - Miss Cardale, Stourbridge; Mr. Stedman, postmaster, Bridgdorth[sic]; Mr. Sambrook, postmaster, Shiffnal; and most of the booksellers in town and country. [1764-] 1765. Two vols. in one, the complete run of 40 issues, 8vo., various paginations*, with a large folding plan (of a trial at Westminster Hall), a little general light foxing and some minor soiling but overall in good or very good condition in old half calf gilt over marbled boards, skilfully rebacked and labelled. * Our set has been collated with great care. It runs from 10 May 1764 to 7 November 1765 (as is correct) and appears to lack a total of only 5 leaves (2 leaves from vol.I no.18, a further 2 from vol.I no.25 and the final leaf of vol.II no.15). These few faults, however, suggest that this set may be closer to completeness than any other set now extant. The Birmingham Register> was a biweekly periodical running in all to some 40 issues during its publication life. It includes essays, anecdotes, selections reprinted from other journals such as The Monitor> and the continuation of the North Briton>; with a Historical Memoir> in each issue including domestic and foreign news, prices of stocks, bankrupts; and with poetry selections. (In this set, the Historical Memoir> for each issue has been bound in sequentially in the second half of the volume). An exceptionally rare provincial periodical. Crane & Kaye 1053. Times Handlist 219. NCBEL II: 1353. ESTC locates copies at Birmingham Central Libraries together with a seriously defective BL set and an imperfect set at Bournemouth (Dorset County Lib.) BUCOP also records the set at Birmingham Public Lib. Not in Union List. Not in OCLC.> [Attributes: Hard Cover]
