In mutilum Campani ampiteatri Titulum aliasque nonnullas Campanas inscriptiones.
Small 4to. Bound in contemporary full vellum, gilt label to the spine; pp. [xx], 172, [12. index], 2 large folding, engraved plates; spotting as is usual with Neopolitan imprints, otherwise a very good copy. Sole edition. Alessio Mazzochi [1684-1771] was a Catholic priest and a noted archaeologist. The present work is devoted to the Roman ampitheatre at Capua. The volume is dedicated to five of Capua's leading citzens who facilitated Mazzochi's studies. The first part contains the text of a number of epigraphs which shed light on the history of the structure. The second part discusses the various entertainments held in the ampitheatre, with particular attention being paid to gladiatorial combats, dance and theatrical performances. The volume concludes with a description of the ruins of the Capuan ampitheatre and others located in the vicinty. Cicognara noted "Opera piena di eruditissme notizie". Cicognara 795.
