Telex Iran: In the Name of Revolution.
Folio (380 x 270 mm). Original photographically illustrated card wrappers; 102pp., with 100 b/w photo plates; a fine copy. First American edition published simultaneously with the French edition (Telex. Persan). Photographed between December 1979 and January 1980 during the siege of the American Embassy in Tehran and the subsequent hostage crisis. As Martin Parr and Gerry Badger point out Telex Iran is "one of the key works in what might be termed a postmodern approach to photojournalism, where the photographer seemes to critique and comment on his or her purpose whilst trying to fulfil it." - to that end the photographs are accompanied by excerpts of telexes sent between Peress and the Magnum offices in Paris and New York as the story developed and serve to underline the uncertainities and volatile nature of the situation. BADGER, Gerry and Martin PARR. The Photobook: Vol. II. p.252. ROTH, Andrew. The Book of 101 Books: Seminal Photographic Books of the Twentieth Century, pp. 246-249.
