The German Extermination Camps of Auschwitz and Birkenau [ the Auschwitz Protocols]
War Refugee Board, Executive Office of the President, Washington, reprinted Dublin 1944 - First edition, 'reprinted in Eire by the Office of War Information of the United States of America at 15 Merrion Square, Dublin'. 8vo, 30pp, double column, original plain wraps, a bit rubbed at the edges, but overall a very good copy, no markings or inscriptions. A rare pamphlet reprinting Jerzy Tabeau's The Mass Extermination of Jews in German Occupied Poland: Note addressed to the Governments of the United Nations on December 10th, 1942, and the first printing of the Auschwitz Protocols by Rudolf Vrba and Alfred Wetlzer. Vrba and Wetlzer were two Slovak Jews who escaped from Auschwitz in April 1943, and transcribed the report soon afterwards. The report represents one of the first attempts to estimate the numbers being killed in the camp, and one of the earliest and most detailed description of the gas chamber as well as the first credible description of the camps, and the most detailed description available at the time. The report prompted world leaders to take action on the atrocities and saved an estimated 200,000 lives. It was also used in evidence in the Nuremberg Trials. Parts of the text were reprinted in newspapers prior to this the first full English Language publication. Rare with only 3 copies listed on Worldcat, NY Columbia, Stanford, and Wisconsin Historical Society, with no records found in commerce. [Attributes: First Edition; Soft Cover]
