The Ancient and Present State of Gloucestershire.
London, Printed in the Year 1712. 1768 - Substantial folio (11 x 17ins, 280 x 440mm) modern half calf, marbled boards. Complete with pp8 of copper-engraved coats of arms, double-page map, 64 copper-engraved birds-eye views of country seats and estates by Thomas Kip. The plates now mounted on guards, a few minimal marginal repairs to foot of central fold. Generous margins, exceptionally clean and crisp. The Second Edition (reduced text but identical illustrations to the First) of which, Lowndes suggests many were destroyed and damaged by fire. The Lowndes copy did not have a portrait of the author sometimes mentioned which seems to usually be missing, probably issued only in the First Edition. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
