THE SHIPWRECK AND DREADFUL SUFFERINGS OF ROBERT BARROW, WITH DIVERS OTHER PERSONS, AMONGST THE INHUMAN CANNIBALS OF FLORIDA
Salem [Ohio]: Re-published by Joshua Shinn, 1826. 120pp. 12mo. Original half calf and paper boards. Binding quite rubbed and edgeworn, front hinge broken. Tanned and foxed. Good. A later edition of GOD'S PROTECTING PROVIDENCE..., originally published in 1699, and one of the most popular of 18th-century captivity narratives. The author and a party of Quakers were bound for Philadelphia from Port Royal when they were shipwrecked in 1696 near present-day West Palm Beach. Despite being robbed and abused by the Indians, they were allowed to make their way up the coast to St. Augustine. An unusual early Ohio imprint. VAIL 905. AYER 72. CLARK I:73. HOWES D317.
