8vo, *8, **6, A-Z, AA-ZZ, AAA8, BBB6 [14], 380, [2] leaves, an elegant historiated metal-cut border on A1 and historated metal-cut initials throughout, printer's device (Janus} below colophon on BBB6a, bound in contemporary blindstamped calf over oak boards, three panels on front board are a group of 8 animals separated by vines, a group of 10 animals in square compartments, and a full length figure of St. Michael, the panels on the rear cover are indistinct but include a saint with a halo and a group of 8 animals, thin vellum flyleaf to rear board, catches and clasps missing, head and foot of spine very expertly renewed, various marks of ownership on title and front fly including "W de Marienburgh 1629", "Joh. Wolterbock 1746", "Hen. Gough 1854" and the latter's printed book label inside the front cover. A fine copy.The panel figuring St. Michael appears very similar to Goldschmidt 70 which is attributed to Victor van Crombrugghe, a binder working in Ghent about 1500-1518. After his death his widow continued the business until 1545 and it is therefore possible that the present binding comes from her workshop.
