A day before the atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki, George Patton signs an original drawing rendered by an admirer - with his signed letter of enclosure
n.p., August 8, 1945. 9" x 12", 8.25" x 10.75". "His bold signature, ""G S Patton Jr.,"" accomplished on a 9"" x 12"" penciled bust portrait of the general sent to him by Long Island woman. Offered together with a Typed Letter Signed, ""G S Patton Jr.,"" 1 page, 8.25"" x 10.75"", ""HEADQUARTERS THIRD UNITED STATES ARMY"", August 8, 1945 to Mrs. Joseph Rodrique of East Rockaway, New York, enclosing her drawing. Drawing bears some light toning from prior matting, minor marginal wear, mounted to a slightly larger sheet; save for a small paperclip mark at the top, the letter is in very fine condition.Patton's letter of enclosure reads, in full: ""I am returning your pencil sketch duly autographed. I very much appreciate your good wishes""A lovely pair of Patton signed items that would make for a terrific display."
