R. Cruttwell, Bath, UK 1798 - A beautifully printed, scarce early botanical book. Includes detailed B&W copper-plates to accompany each species featured. 56 pages + prints. 10 x 13.75 inches. Presumed first edition. Quarter-bound in leather. Leather spine has bright gilt, with title in black leather title box. Cover has expected wear, a bit heavier to the edges. Generally, some scuffing and bumping with minor scrapes and smudges. Leather is scuffed along shoulders and edges, with some cracking. Appears to be rebound with newer end papers. Missing plates #21 and #24. Includes 22 of 24 plates. Interior pages are age toned and clear to read. Pages exhibit some smudging and wear to edges, with occasional marginal edge tears. Pages have scattered foxing, with minimal marks to plates. May have other signs of aging. Text block edges are deckled.
