New York: Coward-McCann, Inc. 1958 - Octavo. Original off-white cloth, titles to spine pink, With the dust jacket designed by Edward Sorel. Spine gently rolled, faint spotting to endpapers. An excellent copy in the toned dust jacket with a few nicks and light wear to extremities. First US edition, first printing. Presentation copy to Peter Matthiessen, inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper: "To Peter with all best wishes, Terry S." Peter Matthiessen (1927–2014) was an American novelist, naturalist, wilderness writer and CIA agent. A co-founder of the literary magazine The Paris Review, he was a three-time National Book Award winner. He was also a prominent environmental activist.
