Original full vellum, spine titled Wordsworth in gilt, by the Doves Bindery. Calligraphic gift label dated 1919 on front flyleaf, H.W.D.J. d.d. J.F.W. Some natural mottling to vellum, minor exterior soiling. Fine copy in custom black half morocco slipcase and chemise. One of 200 copies printed on paper. Text printed in black and red. 230, [1] pp. 1 vols. Small 4to. Choice copy of this selection of Wordsworth's short and long form verse from the defining period of the Romantic movement, and one of the great books of the press. Cobden-Sanderson was "overwhelmed by the scope of the war, for unlike other wars in his memory, it seemed to engulf the whole world in a sort of madness. ? He wanted his last books, before finally closing the press, to be books of peace such as Wordsworth and Goethe, and he hoped to make them his best" (Tidcombe).
