The first part deals with terrestrial globes and the second part, without additional title-page but with a different pagination, treats celestial globes. Johann Ludwig Hocker (1670-1746) discusses the Ptolemaic, Tyhonic and Copernican solar systems, geometry, the division of the earth in climatic zones, how to determine longitude and latitude, the equinox, how to draw a map, all accompanied by folded engraved plates with several globes, geometrical diagrams, a compass rose and a grid with German place names. In the part on celestial globes, Hocker explains how to use a celestial globe, how the constellations are arranged, ecliptics, etc. The illustrations to this part contain a beautiful armillary sphere, a celestial globe, a Copernican armillary sphere, a sundial and geometrical diagrams. Spine slightly chafed. Fine untrimmed copy.
