Florence: Not Attrbuted. Very Good with no dust jacket. 1767-1776. Sheet. Color Illustrations; Cuculus variegatus" (Plate no DXIX). Identified in pencil on verso Manetti, 1767-75. Presumably from "Storia Naturale Degli Uccelli Ornithologia Methodice Digesta" which was larger and better printed than any previous book on birds. Rated amongst the very greatest of the bird books. Giovanni Gerini was the collector from whose extensive collection of specimens Manetti worked chiefly. . Laid paper, sheet size 14" x 18". Clear print. Back is clean other than a couple of brief lightly oneciled notations. “Saviero (also spelled Xaviero) Manetti was a physician and naturalist. He was a graduate of the University of Pisa, member of the Royal Society and served as president of the Botanical Society of Florence, as well as being the director of the Florentine Botanical Garden from 1749 to 1782. Manetti edited and wrote the descriptions for the ambitious five-volume work of folio plates called ‘Storia Naturale degli Uccelli’ (1767-76) , Nissen, IVB 588; Ayer/ Zimmer 241; Bradley Martin 154.; 0 .
