Limited edition of 500 copies, of which around 100 copies survived. Unsigned and numbered 421. Book measures 8.75" x 5.5" This is a rare artist's book or zine by prominent American artist, Raymond Pettibon. This book, titled Capricious Missives presents a dense pictorial offering a sometimes fiendish yet humorous perspective on the preoccupations of youth. Most of the book includes black and white illustrations, with the centerspread in blue ink offering various other Pettibon books and posters available from the publisher. Book is in very good condition with no spots or flaws. Raymond Pettibon began his career as a musician and designer. He gained recognition in the late 1970s with his iconoclastic logos and album covers for famous rock bands like Sonic Youth and Black Flag. His visual style, reflecting the anti-authoritarian punk-rock sensibility is inspired by the works of Francis Goya, William Blake and John Sloan. His work includes a convergence of text and visual ranging from the political to philosophical to religious to the erotic. His work is often described as, dark, obscure, provocative, implicit and abstract. He is also a lead singer for the California based band called the Niche Makers. This is a rare limited edition example of his work.
