HISTORY OF ENGLAND DURING THE REIGNS OF THE ROYAL HOUSE OF STUART
Very good. 1730. First large paper edition.. Full contemporary calf, lea. label, raised bands and tooled border front and back. . xxi, 781, 22 pgs John Oldmixon wrote this history anonymously but it wasn't long before he was discovered to be the author. He was an English Whig political writer who engendered much hatred in his political foes. Samuel Johnson, in The Idler, called him one of the "lowest of human begins -- a scribbler for a party." Alexander Pope made him a character in The Dunciad Fascinating list of subscribers, including Samuel Johnson. Very good condition, but for a weak rear hinge.
