BMC NH, p. 2315; Bosch 356 (part 2 only), cf. pp. XVI-XVII; Stafleu & Cowan 5722. Both parts of an article containing 158 descriptions of plants collected by the prolific and versatile Alexander Philipp Maximilian, Prince zu Wied-Neuwied, on his travels in Brazil. They're extracts from the journal Nova acta Academiæ Cæsareæ Leopoldino-Carolinæ naturæ curiosorum , volumes XI (1823) and XII (1824). "Unter den deutschen Forschungsreisenden, die in dieser Zeit nach Brasilien kamen, ist Prinz Maximilian zu Wied besonders hervorzuheben" (Bosch). The descriptions of these plants, most of previously unrecorded species, were made by Christian Gottfried Daniel Nees von Esenbeck and Karl Friedrich Philipp von Martius. The plates show some of the described plants with their roots, leaves and flowers, with details of its stamen etc.Text leaves browned and foxed, otherwise a good copy, wholly untrimmed.
