Roma. Plan Nouveau de la ville de Rome.
1713 - Paris: Jean-François Bénard, 1713. 555 x 750mm. Minor restoration to folds. A detailed plan of contemporary Rome, with a massive 482-point key and nine insets of buildings. The 'A.C.' bottom left of the map suggests the engraver was A. Cocquart, who engraved a number of maps for de Fer. The publisher was de Fer's son-in-law, who took over the business together with another son-in-law, Guillaume Danet. De Fer died in 1720, so the date on this map suggests he had already taken a back seat in the business. We have only been able to trace one example of this plan on the market in thirty years, also with Bénard's imprint, as all museum examples.
