W. S. Orr and Co, London 1844 - David Ramsay Hay (1798-1966) was best known as a decorator and theorist of color who produced interiors for Sir Walter Scott and Queen Victoria. Important work in color theory that influenced interior design in the 19th century. An exquisite leather binding by master binder Julie Stackpole, completed by her in 1973 and signed at base of inside rear cover. 103, 10 (ads) pp. 8vo. Full leather binding in a light tan leather with five raised bands at spine, gold titling. Decorative leather onlay to cover board replicates multi-color illustration of Plate II at page 23; blind embossed border on front and rear boards. Top edge gilt. Light foxing within. Five vibrant color plates with tissue guards showing eight examples of colors working together in harmony. Housed in paper covered slipcase with leather border at opening that matches binding leather. [Attributes: Hard Cover]
