New York: Rinehart & Co., 1952. First Edition. First Printing. Octavo; black textured paper-covered boards, with titles stamped in pale blue on spine; dustjacket; 247pp. Small bookplate to front pastedown, with a few pinpoint rubs to spine ends, else a fresh, Fine copy. Dustjacket is unclipped (priced $2.50), lightly rubbed at extremities, with a faint, shallow stain to upper edge of rear panel; very Near Fine and the best we have seen, without a hint of fading to the sensitive pink color on the spine. Collection of 7 pseudonymously-written stories which first appeared in the pages of 'Argosy' and 'Dime Detective.' The story "All at Once, No Alice" served as the basis for the 1948 film noir 'The Return of the Whistler,' directed by Ross Lederman and starring Michael Duane, Lenore Aubert, and Richard Lane. One of the scarcest Woolrich collections, and one that is seldom (if ever) seen in true collectors condition. Dark Page Vol.1, p.302.
