Contemporary marbled boards, spine with black gilt lettered label. First edition of this scarce work, to which the author contributed also the drawings and engravings of the plates (except for the title-vignette which was done by Bissel). Otto Fridrich Müller (1730-1784) was the author of a splendid work on the zoology of Denmark 'Zoologia Danica'. As a person of the Age of Enlightenment his interest was broad and he was 'the foremost representative of the Linnaean period in Denmark' (Snorrason 1974). "From 1774 until 1784, he had an amazing and steady output of publications. In the fields neglected by Linnaeus and his followers, Müller made strong contributions to knowledge of Infusoria, Hydrachnidae, Tardigrada, Vermes, Mollusca."
