"Octagonal Room"
London.: Dickinson Bros.. [ 1854].. Color lithograph with some hand-color, 13 1/2 x 19 inches on sheet size 16 3/4 x 23 inches. With accompanying text sheet. A few faint spots to lower left margin (outside image area), adhesive tape to corners of verso (not affecting front image), overall very good bright condition. Attractive view of the "Octagonal Room" showcasing art from the German States inside the Crystal Palace from the first international World's Fair that took place in Hyde Park, London, England, from May 1 to October 15 1851. This lithograph, printed in rich colors, was published as one of the folio plates for "Dickinson's Comprehensive Pictures of the Great Exhibition of 1851 From the Originals Painted for H.R.H. Prince Albert by Messrs. [Joseph] Nash, [Louis] Haghe, and [David] Roberts." The accompanying text states: "There was perhaps no portion of the Foreign Department of the Great Exhibition which received a greater number of separate visits of inspection from each individual composing the many thousands of persons who daily crowded the crystal avenues, than that octangular space in which were so tastefully displayed the best productions of art which the German States composing the Zollverein could assemble together." .
