London.: Dickinson Bros.. [ 1854].. Color lithograph with some hand-color, 13 1/2 x 19 inches on sheet size 16 3/4 x 23 inches. With accompanying text sheet. Adhesive tape to corners of verso (not affecting front image). Very good bright condition. An attractive view by Joseph Nash of the "Zollverein" exhibition showcasing German art, inside the Crystal Palace from the first international World's Fair that took place in Hyde Park, London, England, from 1 May to 15 October 1851. From: Dickinson's Comprehensive Pictures of the Great Exhibition of 1851 From the Originals Painted for H.R.H. Prince Albert by Messrs. [Joseph] Nash, [Louis] Haghe, and [David] Roberts. "The Zollverein, or 'Great Customs' Union,' is the most extensive of the three commercial groups into which Germany may be divided." Although the dominant feature of this image is the sculpture of the Amazon by Professor A. Kiss of Berlin, other interesting items include: "a Globe [ by M. Kummer] in relief, 4 feet in diameter, on a pedestal. It was constructed of papier-mache; and in the execution regard was not only paid to the summits of the mountains, but to all highlands, rives, and towns..."In the gallery was placed an Organ, by Messsrs. Schulze." .
