The Wild Sports of Southern Africa
Pelham Richardson, London 1844 - narrative of an expedition from the Cape of Good hope through the territories of the Chielf Moselekatse to the Tropic of Capricorn. This is the first edition to contain the full complement of hand colored plates and the two extra chapters. 359 pp. Ill. Considered the first, and a cornerstone title, essential in any African sporting library. The first big game hunting book ever written, credit with popularizing sport hunting in Africa throughout the world. As good to read today as it was 165 years ago. The third and fourth impressions are sought after because of the colored plates. Original red cloth, elaborately blind stamped and with gilt animal vignettes on front cover and spine. VG+, fine internally. Hard to find in such bright original cloth with bright crisp gilt. Only mild wear at spine tips and corners, and more important, free of foxing to any of the plates. Great collector copy. [Attributes: Hard Cover]
