The Hogarth Press 1959 - The First UK Printing published by The Hogarth Press in 1959.The BOOK is in near FINE condition with light pushing at the spine tips and very minor bumping to the lower corners.Free from inscriptions,markings and erasures.The true first issue containing the passage on page 272 describing the fires at the piano-works, which was subsequently suppressed.The gilt titling remains very bright.The WRAPPER is complete and is in near FINE condition.A tiny nick to the lower front spine fold and a little rubbing at the upper front spine fold. Accompanied by the very scarce W.H.Smith Annual Literary Award PROMOTIONAL BAND which is complete and is in near FINE condition having a little creasing to the rear portion and the fold flaps.The spine colouring is remarkably unfaded! 'Cider With Rosie' was the 1960 winner of the award which had only commenced the previous year in 1959.The John Ward designed wraparound artwork and band look very striking in the removable Brodart archival cover. This promotional band is not to be confused with he more common (albeit scarce) Book Society Choice promotional band.We have not encountered copies of this title with the W.H.Smith band before and this is the first copy as such we have handled .Scarce.
